Carmen Wong Receives NSERC Doctoral Scholarship

Carmen Wong, a PhD student in the lab, has been named the recipient of an Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarship – Doctoral Award from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). These scholarships provide support to high calibre scholars who are engaged in a doctoral program in the natural sciences or engineering. Congratulations Carmen!

Amee Hall’s Paper Makes the Cover of Hearing Research

HR-coverAmee Hall, a doctoral student in the lab, had her most recent paper chosen to be featured on the front cover of Hearing Research. He paper, “High-field fMRI reveals tonotopically-organized and core auditory cortex in the cat” (Hearing Research (2015) 325: 1-11), describes how high field (7T) fMRI can be used to define the four tonotopic fields of cat auditory cortex (A1, AAF, PAF, and VPAF) and how it can also be used to further define the two core auditory areas, A1 and AAF. Congratulations Amee!

Steve Lomber named Canada Research Chair in Brain Plasticity and Development

Steve Lomber, Cerebral Systems Lab PI, has been named the Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Brain Plasticity and Development. Dr. Lomber is a Professor in the Departments of Physiology and Pharmacology, and Psychology. He is also a principal investigator in the National Centre for Audiology and the Brain and Mind Institute.


Melanie Kok Becomes Dr. Kok

Melanie Kok, a PhD candidate in the lab, recently defended her dissertation entitled “EXPLORING THE STRUCTURAL AND FUNCTIONAL ORGANIZATION OF THE DORSAL ZONE OF AUDITORY CORTEX IN HEARING AND DEAFNESS”. Congratulations Mel!

Post-Doc Position Available

The Cerebral Systems Lab at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada has funding available for a new postdoctoral fellow. Potential applicants should have interests in examining the functional consequences of hearing loss in animal models or the organization of non-primary auditory cortex in non-human primate or feline models. Projects could include electrophysiological and psychophysical investigations, as well as functional imaging. The Cerebral Systems Lab has state-of-the-art facilities for neurophysiology, psychophysical testing, and functional imaging (7T MRI scanner). Potential applicants should be no more than three years post PhD. Anticipated start date for this position would be spring or summer of 2015.
